My First Story!

This reporting experience might have been one of the most nerve-racking experiences I’ve ever had in my entire life. I declared my major as a Visual Journalism major to take pictures, not to write long articles. Nevertheless, it was a good experience and very eye opening to hear the opinions of students and faculty on the expanding population of Biola University. It was challenging to rid myself of my old writing habits and style to write in the style of an article.
I think I did best on the interview section because I was able to use my social skills and interact with people that I didn’t know. I liked getting out of my comfort zone and discussing things that are important to the people on campus. They were very open and honest with how they felt about the growth of Biola, and did not have a problem with voicing their opinions. Overall it was fun, and I enjoyed my first experience very much.

Potential problems of interviewing on the record at Biola University and how to overcome them

Giving an attribution in an interview on campus may cause danger to a person’s identity and relationships to their peers and colleagues. This may also depend on the story that is being told and how controversial is may be. It could also give them praise, or problems as people on campus read about what they said. This person might have a certain reputation to live up to because of certain credentials or class that they teach.
A journalist’s job is to tell the truth, and if someone is being honest, we are expected to give a truthful story. We might be looked down upon for putting in a quote that well fit the story. We can overcome by knowing we are giving information that is useful to the campus. We could also be reminded of God’s love and know that he has everything under control.

Gawker: Craiglist Scandal causes Congressman Chris Lee to resigns

I think he took it more seriously than it really was. He resigned after 3 small hours of those pictures being released in public. I think he might regret that decision after thinking long and hard about his job and his family. It wasn't as serious as having a physical affair with the woman. They exchanged a few e-mails along with his shirtless photo. I think the situation could have been handled in a different way. This just shows that the congressman is human and one of us. He is broken and sinful just like the rest of this world, giving the more relatable vote when it comes to law being passed. In his statement for his release, he says, "I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness." He is genuinely sorry and i think he didn't have to take such serious action to prove that he was.

As for the woman on craigslist that was involved, I find her sickening. In the interview she gave with gawker.com, she sounded like such an inconsiderate person. She just wanted her 15 minutes of fame, so she decided to release photos and emails of those things. The answers to the questions that she gives makes all of this seem like "no big deal" to her, and she talks like she wasn't involved with any of this. I think she needs a reality check and come to terms with the fact that this was done by 2 people, not just the congressman.

Mechanics & Mammoths: What will be the Delay?

BIOLA 6.4 million dollar Talbot school of Theology; an impressive structure built to house the students of BIOLA pursuing knowledge of God. Started on June 1st 2010 the structure is still in its infancy yet has already faced obstacles of varying natures. There have been the expected delays and the road blocks of suburban construction but there have also been potential delays stemming from more ancient roots.
A broken bobcat mini dozer stood in the way of progressed today with its broken backup alarm. The crew of Crew Incorporated had to wait today for a repair man to arrive and mend the dozers broken safety feature. Greg the awaited bobcat repair man spoke of his love of BIOLA and the many years he has lived across from the school.
While the many years Greg has lived across from BIOLA and problems he fixes to further the progress of the new building there is a potential setback that not even this La Mirada long time local could remedy if encountered, a woolly mammoth. BIOLA already home to a resident mammoth is a potential site for new fossil discoveries. This is a potential source of major excitement or anxiety for the students of BIOlA. As Stewart Hall resident and film major Issac Svennson expressed some students here “we half expected to run into fossils and if they had the operation would have been called off.”
Fortunately for the hopeful future Talbot students no major obstacles in the form of fossils have been run into yet. So for now the days of Greg the repairman will have to be contented with problems of daily mechanics and not the problems of a woolly mammoth.
